| Karen, a long-time member of Cherokee Lodge and Resort was suffering
from a terminal illness. While residing in Florida, she became
aware that some friends were planning a trip to Cherokee. She asked
them to let her make that trip with them. They, thinking of her frail
health, tried to persuade her that the trip would be too hard on her.
However, she was determined. She stated that while she was still
living she wanted to make one last visit to the place and friends she loved
so much. She also had another very important purpose in mind.
She wanted Danny Davis, owner of Cherokee, and also a minister, to baptize
her at Cherokee’s Little Church in the Wildwood.
Seeing Karen’s courage and determination, her friends prepared a bed
and made her as comfortable as possible in their vehicle and brought her
to Cherokee. Although it was not an easy trip, Karen was able to
enjoy seeing her beloved Cherokee and her friends here as well as find
the peace she was seeking when Danny performed her baptism.
Karen returned with her friends to Florida, where she made peace with her fate.
Karen made one final trip to Cherokee.
She had requested that when her body could no longer withstand the ravages
of her illness and the inevitable happened, that her body be cremated and
her ashes have an eternal resting place at Cherokee’s Little Church in
the Wildwood. Her final request was graciously and sadly honored in March 2002.
Our prayers will always be with you, Karen. God bless and keep you.
